Our Story

In 1997 I started making sushi for friends and cooking meals for the guests staying at my cabinas that I opened in Tamarindo. I never imagined that would eventually lead me to open my own Asian restaurant. Through my friends and customer’s loving support and encouragement, I took the plunge and Wok N Roll opened up in 2001.

At the time it was one of the very few Asian restaurants in Costa Rica and the first Asian restaurant in the Pacific Coast. This venture came with big challenges and adventures during the founding years, to say the least. One of the biggest ones was navigating a six-hour journey on the unpleasant roads to San José to stock up on hard-to-find ingredients. The adventure didn’t end there though, once there it was easy to become lost in a city where the streets and many businesses had no names or signs. This twice-a-month journey meant a 5 a.m. departure and a return by midnight. This led to what has been the grounding philosophy of Wok N Roll: a fierce and uncompromised commitment to healthy, honest, really fresh and delicious food alongside high-quality service.

Our menu changes every year to reflect the changing trends and availability of products. We prepare each dish to order with the freshest ingredients. This takes a little longer than the fast takeout style establishment, but we believe in the experience of dining.
